Sakura Kinomoto (木之本 桜) is a sweet and athletic elementary school girl created by the manga group CLAMP, debuting in Cardcaptor Sakura in 1996. Named after the Japanese word for "cherry blossom", she has short brown hair and wears a variety of custom costumes made by her best friend Tomoyo. Cheerful, caring, and occasionally clumsy, Sakura is also brave despite her fear of ghosts. She lives with her father Fujitaka and older brother Toya. After accidentally releasing the magical Clow Cards, she becomes a Cardcaptor and sets out to recapture them, gradually developing her own magical abilities. Supported by Tomoyo and her former rival and eventual love interest Syaoran, Sakura faces each challenge with optimism and her reassuring phrase, "It's absolutely going to be okay!"
