Sadness (カナシミ) is one of the five core emotions inside 11-year-old Riley's mind in Disney/Pixar's Inside Out (2015). Shaped like a teardrop, she has blue skin, short blue hair, glasses, and wears a thick turtleneck sweater. Soft-spoken, gloomy, and often pessimistic, Sadness initially struggles to understand her role as she accidentally turns Riley's happy memories sad. Over the course of the story, she discovers that sadness is essential to Riley's emotional well-being, allowing her to process difficult experiences, seek comfort, and connect with her loved ones.
