Momoko Sakura / Maruko
Momoko Sakura (さくらももこ), nicknamed "Maruko", is the main character of Chibi Maruko-chan, created by manga artist Momoko Sakura in 1986 and based largely on the author's own childhood. This third-grade schoolgirl has short black hair with distinctive bangs and is often depicted wearing a white shirt with a red suspender skirt. She is lazy, curious, imaginative, and somewhat mischievous, frequently getting herself into minor trouble at school or at home through procrastination and impulsive decisions. She enjoys manga, drawing, and daydreaming, and shares a particularly close and affectionate relationship with her grandfather, Tomozo. Maruko speaks casually and candidly, often making humorous or sarcastic observations about everyday life, school, family, and the adults around her.
