Hachiware (ハチワレ) is a major character created by illustrator Nagano for the webcomic Chiikawa. Named after his distinctive bicolor markings, Hachiware is a cheerful, thoughtful, and optimistic critter who lives in a cave. As Chiikawa's close friend, he is known for his ability to communicate fluently in standard Japanese, his love of playing the guitar, and his willingness to take on various tasks and adventures with his blue sasumata. Despite occasional fears and worries, he often demonstrates resilience and courage when helping his friends.
